Use Blue Balloons to Boost Her Confidence and Make Her Smile!
As a project of the Confidence Coalition, the “You Make Me SMILE” Campaign is designed to brighten a woman or girl’s day and boost her confidence. And it’s easy to do! Just inflate blue balloons, write confidence-boosting messages on them, then hand the balloons out to women and girls of all ages.

The project can be done at an event, on a college campus, at a mall, at a park, on the street, just about anywhere people are walking around. Don’t worry if someone won’t take a balloon at first. You’ll be amazed, though, at how many will take them, read the message and smile. The different reactions are wonderful. In our first try at this, we saw one girl twirl around after she got the balloon; another told us we boosted her confidence; others smiled and tied their balloons to backpacks, desks and chairs.
Supplies
- Blue balloons – To order blue balloons with the Confidence Coalition logo printed on them, shop the Kappa Delta Boutique. Or purchase plain blue balloons at a store near you and write the coalition web address – www.confidencecoalition.org on them.
- Helium – You can get a small tank at a local party supply store. This should be enough for 40-50 balloons, and the small ones are quite portable. Or take your balloons to a local party store and have them inflated there.
- Black or dark blue Sharpies or other permanent markers
- Ribbon to tie balloons
- Any number of girls or women, a great attitude and a SMILE
Getting Started
Before you begin, take some time to come up with some messages to write on the balloons. Think of phrases that would lift your spirits, boost your confidence and make you smile. Here are some examples:
- You can change the world!
- You are beautiful – inside & out!
- Believe in yourself!
- You can do anything!
- Have a beautiful day!
- Anything is possible!
- Follow your dreams!
- Smile!
- Go confidently!
