Speak Out about Healthy Media Images for Girls
We love our favorite magazines, TV shows, and movies, right? But we don’t love how they sometimes chip away at our confidence and body image. The need for more positive images of girls in the media is clear.
Now you can TAKE ACTION and make a difference. As part of the Confidence Coalition, you can support the Healthy Media for Youth Act recently developed by Girl Scouts of the USA and introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congresswomen Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin and Shelley Moore Capito from West Virginia. The bill will improve media literacy and encourage the promotion of healthier media messages about girls and women.
- Join the advocacy network and send emails asking your members of Congress to support the bill.
- Help spread the word through your networks! Promote the bill through social media. Blog about this issue and bill on your favorite sites. Join the Healthy Media for Youth Act fan page.
- Organize a media literacy workshop and/or letter-writing campaign in celebration of International Girls Day in November.
