Alabama

International Girls Day – Kappa Delta Sorority, Sigma Lambda Chapter – Auburn University; November 14, 2pm-3:30 PM; Kappa Delta Chapter Room and Green Space, The Village Residence Halls 201 Wire Road, Auburn, Ala.
Girl Scouts of all ages from Southern Alabama are invited to attend. Kappa Delta Sorority chapter members will speak to the attendees about how they discovered they can do anything, from becoming a veterinarian, to a cheerleader, to an actress. Join us for an afternoon of field day activities that center on embracing your talents. There will be science, math, athletic, and art activities that will allow girls to explore their strengths. There will be a dressing booth at the end of the path that will allow the girls to dress up in what they someday hope to become. The Albuquerque and Santa Fe Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Delta with the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum are hosting an event to celebrate Santa Fe Girls! Middle school girls who are participants in the O'Keeffe Art and Leadership Program for Girls will create an alphabet through a photography and writing project to show how unique and wonderful the girls of Santa Fe are. Shannon Bay, the Art and Leadership Program Coordinator and President of the KD Alumnae Chapter and Elizabeth Crumpler, former intern of the A&L Program and VP of Community Service for the Alumnae Chapter of KD will be leading the workshop. Girl Scouts ages 8-15 and their parents/families are invited to attend. This event will include confidence-building activities and a speaker on how Girl Scouts gives you confidence. The night will end with a fashion show where one Girl Scout troop will be chosen to model for the show. This troop will be determined through a canned food drive competition between the attendees. The troop that collects the most will get to model. The "You Make Me Smile" campaign will also be featured at this event. Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors (2nd-5th graders) are invited to attend this event. The event is limited to the first 70 registrants. This Confidence Carnival will include several stations. There will be a "dress-up" booth, featuring a photo shoot and runway that showcases inner and outer beauty. At the "What you want to be when you grow up" booth, girls will learn why education is so important and discuss potential future careers. There will also be booths for girls to write confidence notes to their friends, make friendship bracelets, and decorate their own uniquely ME! mirror. The event is at no cost to the Girl Scouts. Registration for the event begins at 2PM, where girls will be presented with books and color-coded stickers for group assignments for the day. This event will include three stations: a career fair featuring women who will speak about their respective careers; a fitness/health station where a personal trainer will lead a yoga demonstration and give advice on how to stay active and healthy; and a “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” area with snacks and drinks, face painting, friendship bracelet-making, and more. Local Girl Scout troops and students from a local all-girls’ school are invited to the event. The event is also open to the public. Ages will range from 5th to 8th grade. This event is limited to the first 75 registrants. The event will include activities, a speaker who will talk about confidence, the Healthy Media for Youth Act, and group discussions. The event will close with a confidence fashion show where each Girl Scout will be paired up with a Kappa Delta and walk the “Confidence Runway.” At the end of the runway, each girl will strike a pose and say what makes her feel confident. This event will focus on building confidence in girls, celebrating what makes each girl unique, and an opportunity for each girl to realize "she can do anything." The girls will make scrapbooks using their own photos and images and words from magazines that are meaningful to them. We will also work together to make one big poster featuring pictures that we take the day of the event. We will have outside games to play, lots of food.
